Intelligence is a workflow
Supervisory technology is most useful when it improves the path from information to review. That means bringing relevant data together, recording how indicators were generated, making exceptions visible and giving the responsible reviewer enough context to challenge an output.
The goal is not to automate judgment away. It is to make professional review more consistent, traceable and focused.
Four design principles
- Context before scoring: a signal should be interpreted alongside the relevant institution, product, period and evidence.
- Explainability before escalation: reviewers should be able to understand why an item was prioritised.
- Controls around change: rules, data sources and thresholds need ownership, testing and version history.
- Human approval: an accountable person decides what the evidence means and what action is appropriate.
From signal to safer action
A well-designed workflow can move from regulatory information to structured insight, stronger controls and a documented decision path. This is where RegTech and SupTech meet responsible governance.
VERIFY → REVIEW → APPROVE
Technology may identify a signal; the institution remains responsible for verifying evidence and approving action.
